About Me In A Nutshell

Now, let me tell you a little bit about me. 

Growing up in the country in Southern Ohio, I remember as a kid we didn't have much but we worked for everything that we had. Mom and dad moved from city living to country living in the early 70's and country living was all that I knew and I loved it. We had chickens, rabbits, a couple cows here and there and we also had a couple of ducks. I remember me and my sisters going out and getting eggs, helping feed the animals and do whatever else mom and dad needed help with. Every summer we would plant a vegetable garden and of course, us kids would get the lovely job of pulling weeds, which is everyone's favorite chore right? LOL.. Of course it isn't, but the rewards came at the end of summer when we got to pick the fruits of our labor. 

Nice big red tomatoes, green beans, pumpkins, strawberries and pears... just to name a few. At the end of summer I remember my mom in the kitchen canning everything that she could and storing them away for later. I can still hear the sound of the rocker from the pressure cooker as well as the wonderful aromas filling the kitchen. I absolutely loved all of it. My love for country living was born and I wanted to continue it with my family.

 Throughout my life, I have worn many different hats. I have worked in restaurants, telemarketing, sales, retail, I've had training in peer counseling, I was a Client Service Director for a local Non-Profit for 13 years and a caregiver to my wonderful parents. I'm married and a mom to some beautiful and wonderful girls. I have always had a passion for all things natural as well as art and any kind of crafting. That right there is my happy place. I can get my creative juices going and just get lost in whatever I am creating.

Since I was a kid, I remember always having skin issues but after I had my first pregnancy my skin issues just became worse. After seeing a couple of different Dermatologists they both diagnosed me with having eczema and psoriasis. Anyone who has these skin issues knows exactly what I'm talking about. I didn't want to use prescription medicine to treat my conditions because for one, who really knows what goes into those meds, plus, all of the side effects that come along with it and second, I knew there had to be a much better and healthier alternative out there.... somewhere. I was bound and determined to find it.  

This is when I turned to diving deep into researching how beneficial all natural butters and oils are for our skin. I was amazed by all of the benefits and I just had to try it out. Now, I've been making and using my own skin care products for the past 9 years and this has helped my skin more than anything else I have tried, plus... we have no idea what really goes into the creams and lotions that we get from the store. When I make it.. I know exactly what goes into my items... natural butters, oils, pure essential oils & fragrances that are FREE of harmful chemicals and toxins. I knew that if what I made helps my skin so much then it would help others too, this is why I started Down Home Country Goods. I also knew that I wanted to be able to share with others what I have learned throughout my life's journey because you never know who might want that same information too.

Our biggest goal as a family is to become more self-sufficient in growing and preserving our own food, raising some much needed animals like chickens, some rabbits, a few turkeys, maybe some ducks and I want a couple of goats for milk, cheese and of course some goats milk soap. I want my girls to learn the much needed skills that I was taught growing up so they know how to live without needing to rely on store bought everything that is ladened with harmful chemicals and toxins that causes illnesses and diseases.
